The OCC Library received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association (ALA) as part of the “Bridging Cultures Initiative”. This grant, called Muslim Journeys Bookshelf, gives the library a collection of 25 books, 3 films and 1 year of access to the database Oxford Islamic Studies Online. The library is working with the Religious Studies
Department of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division, the Muslim Students
Association and Student Life Office to promote the collection and its use.
Developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association (ALA), the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf is intended to address both the need and desire of the American public for trustworthy and accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices, as well as the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations.
The Library will be holding an open house for the grant in the Fall. An announcement will be posted on this site when plans are finalized.
More information on the grant can be found here and here.
