The Friends of the Library (FOTL) and the International and Multicultural Committee (IMC) will host a talk by Douglas Parks. The talk will focus on Parks’ work and relationship with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960s. Parks, a minister and lifelong member of the NAACP, joined Dr. King in Selma, Ala., in 1964, where they worked to register black voters and eliminate poll taxes. During that time, he became close friends with Dr. King, and worked with him throughout the South and elsewhere to combat racial inequality. Parks also participated in the March on Montgomery in 1965, where he was arrested (one of many arrests in his lifetime of activism).
