Claudia Ackley, president of the Orange Coast College Friends of the Library
(FOTL) and a retired OCC counselor, will present “Cuba: Our Nearest, Most
Distant Neighbor”. The lecture is sponsored by OCC’s Friends of the Library and
the Lido Isle Women’s Club. The public is invited to attend. Proceeds will
benefit the OCC Library. Refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, please
call (714) 432-5087. Ackley will share her experiences during a recent visit to
Cuba, with its historically rich culture and friendly people. “It is a land of
contradictions,” Ackley observed. The average income is $25 a month, “but their
free educational system boasts a 99% literacy rate.”
