The 2022 Banff Virtual Film Festival is Now Online!

Do you like: outdoor adventure? Sports and activities that make your adrenaline surge? Short films? 

If so, you will enjoy watching the Banff Film Festival.  Tickets are available online for two exciting programs until October 24, 2022. 

The Friends of the Library will earn a percentage of ticket revenues through the URL linked above. Please choose individual programs for $15 each or the two-program bundle for $28. Each individual program has a 3-day rental period, and the bundle has a 14-day period.

We hope that you enjoy this Banff Film Festival experience online! Also, we are planning to host a two-night live screening on campus this fall. The film selections for the upcoming live event will be completely different from the films available online, so there is no overlap.

Bill Campbell is the author of the new graphic novel 
The Day the Klan Came to Town


Join us for a Zoom talk with Bill Campbell, author and publisher at Rosarium Publishing. His latest work, The Day the Klan Came to Town, is a graphic novel based on historical events: The Ku Klux Klan attack on the Jewish, Catholic, Black, and southern and eastern European immigrant communities of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, in 1923, and how they rose up to send the Klan packing. 


In dialog with Campbell will be Rachelle Cruz, Professor of Creative Writing in the Genre Fiction concentration at Western Colorado University, and author of Experiencing Comics: An Introduction to Reading, Discussing and Creating Comics.

CANCELLED - Banff Film Festival World Tour, March 17 & 18


Due to public health concerns related to preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Banff Mountain Film Festival at Orange Coast College has been cancelled. We regret this, but feel it is a prudent preventative measure for the benefit of the community.

If you purchased Banff Film Festival tickets with a credit card through our college website or at the Bursar's Office, you will be issued a refund automatically. You should see the refund on your credit card statement within the next few weeks. If you purchased tickets with cash at our campus Bursar's Office, you are welcome to bring your tickets and receipt to this location for a refund. A check will be issued to you within 4-6 weeks. If you are unable to come to campus for a refund of your cash purchase, please feel free to contact Shannon MacGregor in the Bursar's Office for further details. If you purchased tickets from REI, they are happy to provide a refund. Simply return your tickets and receipt to the store where you purchased them.

The Friends of the Library will host their Fall Book Sale for two days. A variety of books will be available from romance and mysteries to science, art, history, and computers.

When: Tuesday, October 22 - Hours: 10am - 3pm
Wednesday, October 23 - Hours: 9am - 3pm
Friends of the Library Members Only -  Early Bird Sale*: Tuesday, 9-10am
Where: Orange Coast College Library.
The sale will be held inside the library, with entry from the outside door.
Cost: Most books sell for $1.00.
The sale will culminate with a "2-dollar-a-bag" sale from 1 - 3pm on Wednesday, 10/23.
Where should I park? Metered parking is available in Lot E (take Merrimac Way to the southwest corner of campus).

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour: A Friends of the Library Fundraiser

Come help raise money for the Friends of the Library by watching a selection of short films! 

When: Wednesday, September 25 (7:00 PM)

Where: Robert B. Moore Theatre

The BMFF World Tour features an international selection of films that present a vast range of outdoor adventures and portraits, including climbing, mountain expeditions, remote cultures and the world's last great wild places!

Admission: $12 for advance tickets; $15 at the door; $5 for OCC students with current ID. Save $3 on admission at the door by donating three or more books, DVDs or CDs per person! FOTL Event: A Family Sails Around the World 4/14/2015

When: April 14th at 7pm
Where: Lido Island Community Center, 701 Via Lido Soud, Newport Beach
Admission: $5 or a gently used book; FREE for OCC students & FOTL members
Speaker: Tony Spooner & Carolyn Heath

It started with a home-made boat. A 40ft trimaran christened Macha. Carolyn Heath and Tony Spooner began an adventure in June of 2012. Carolyn Heath is an Earth Sciences Professor at Fullerton College. The intrepid crew voyaged to ports of call that included Mexico, Costa Rica, & Central America. They then chose a hard "left" from Panama to the Galapagos Islands. The adventure recommenced with their biggest crossing yet, 3000 miles, to the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. They will be continuing on later this year to Tonga, Fiji and beyond., hoping to get as far as the Indian Ocean in the next couple of years! Join us for this fascinating evening.
