Mystery Science Fiction Theater in the Library, Sat Apr 7

OCC Library and the Friends of the Library are inviting students and faculty to watch some selected films from our newest digital streaming film collection, Kanopy. Join us in the Library this Saturday for
Mystery Science Fiction Theater

If you are attending Coast Con, please visit the Library, Room 112, 12-3pm, for an afternoon of films!

12:00 Vintage Tomorrows
Steampunk started as a subgenre of science fiction fascinated with steam-powered machinery and alternative histories frequently set in Victorian England. VINTAGE TOMORROWS examines steampunk's transformation from those sci-fi beginnings into a global cultural movement that influences art, fashion, design and music.

1:30 Science Fiction in the 21st Century
Science Fiction has developed from having highly similar plots, audiences, and even authors, into a diverse field with international appreciation and ownership. Tour novels and stories featuring characters of all shapes and colors, written by authors of varying ethnicities, nationalities, and genders. Learn how they were received at the time of publication, and see the impact they had on later writers.

2:00 White Scripts and Black Supermen
"Provides a wonderful point of entry, invariably prompting wonderful conversations inside the classroom and beyond. The film pushes us beyond simply recounting this undocumented history but simultaneously complicating the many issues that define this history." - David J. Leonard, Washington State University
