Library Tip: Printing

Need to know how to print in the library? Follow these directions:

To print from the library lab computers, you must first log in. Next, pull up your document and select the print option. The print job is sent to a computer against the wall. To release the print job, put a blue print card in the box next to the print release computer. Then, select your print job from the computer screen. Your job is identifiable by your student ID number. After you follow the prompts, money will be deducted from your card and the job will print.

Print cards may be purchased from machines located in the computer lab and next to the photocopiers. A one dollar bill is required to purchase a card. Each card comes with a $.50 balance. The other $.50 is the cost of the card. Additional money can be added to the same card later.

If you have questions, please ask! Staff will be happy to assist you.

OCC Library Awarded Muslim Journeys Bookshelf Grant

The OCC Library received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association (ALA) as part of the “Bridging Cultures Initiative”. This grant, called Muslim Journeys Bookshelf, gives the library a collection of 25 books, 3 films and 1 year of access to the database Oxford Islamic Studies Online. The library is working with the Religious Studies Department of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division, the Muslim Students Association and Student Life Office to promote the collection and its use.

Developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association (ALA), the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf is intended to address both the need and desire of the American public for trustworthy and accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices, as well as the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations.

The Library will be holding an open house for the grant in the Fall. An announcement will be posted on this site when plans are finalized.

More information on the grant can be found here and here.

FOTL Event: "Antarctica" on 4/16

Antarctica

Presenter: Steve Goetz, OCC Professor Emeritus

When: Tuesday, April 16th at 7pm

Where: OCC Library

Donation: $5 or a gently used book; OCC students and FOTL members get in free

Come and listen to OCC Professor Emeritus Steve Goetz talk about his trip to Antarctica!

"I first read about Amundsen and Shackleton when I was in my early twenties and living in the Netherlands. Since then, I have wanted to visit Antarctica. This interest was rekindled hearing the stories of my colleagues and friends, Dennis Kelly and Mike Olds, who both had been there, Dennis twice. I realized I wasn’t getting any younger or richer, so in November of 2011, I arranged a trip through Overseas Adventure Travel leaving in January of 2012. My wife Peggy, an adventurer at heart, agreed to go with me. Though traveling there took a full three days, one day by plane and two days by ship crossing the Drake Passage, this trip will remain one of the most breathtaking adventures we have ever had. Antarctica is a pristine wilderness the scale of which is almost inconceivable. The precautions we took before landing - vacuuming our clothing and disinfecting our boots - reminded me how cavalier we are about the ecology of our own more traveled world and the need to keep Antarctica protected and free of any country’s ownership."

All proceeds benefit the OCC Library. Books will be available for purchase by Lido Village Books. Extra credit vouchers will be available for students on request.
